Everything so far has been about what a program is. This part is about how it runs, and how much of that you choose to see. Nothing here changes the meaning of a program you already wrote. It shows the machinery under it and hands you its controls.

What the next part adds. Up to here, a program is something you write, check, build and run. The organism is a program that is also governed. It keeps a record of every decision made about it, proposes its own changes, proves them with this toolchain, asks the people with authority, applies exactly what they approved, and watches that it worked.
